Changes in the demerit point system and increase in fines in 2024

For some serious offences, fines will increase by up to several thousand crowns in 2024. For minor offences, some penalties will be reduced.

The increase will affect both on-the-spot fines and those that go to administrative proceedings.

For example, for refusing to take an alcohol test, a driver will pay up to CZK 75,000 in administrative proceedings instead of the current CZK 50,000.

For using a mobile phone at the wheel, a driver will be fined up to CZK 10,000 in administrative proceedings instead of the current CZK 2,500.

The maximum on-the-spot fine for using a mobile phone while driving will increase from CZK 1,000 to CZK 3,500.
